Currently, in the world ocean there are about 20,000 species of seaweed, of which Red seaweed has about 500 genera and 6,000 species. In particular, the type of Red seaweed Eucheuma gelatinae gives very high Carrageenan content, over 60% of the dry weight, appears mainly in Japan, China, Vietnam and Philippines according to semi-natural culture.

Vietnam Sea, of the 800 species of seaweed belonging to the world's seaweed species, there are many Red seaweed varieties with high Carrageenan content, evenly distributed across 3,000 km of our coastline. Analysis of raw materials shows that there are only two species: Hong Van seaweed and rong Sua seaweed that give the highest Carrageenan content (60%), appearing mainly in the South Central Coast such as Nha Trang, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
